Marianne Nikolov: Issues in English Language Education

Issues in English Language Education

Description

This volume explores both theoretical and empirical questions related to second language acquisition and foreign language learning in general, and English language education in Hungary in particular. The book overviews the relevance of the critical period hypothesis (CPH) to early foreign language programmes and contributes to a better understanding of the complexity of problems underlying discussions. It also challenges the CPH by giving an account of two studies on successful adult learners of English and Hungarian. Three different aspects of the same children's classroom experiences are explored over their eight years of study in primary school: the development of their attitudes and motivation, strategy use and negotiation. The book includes two classroom-based empirical studies. One on how children of 6-14 interact in a variety of foreign language classrooms, whereas the other one gives a detailed analysis of a classroom observation project of 118 disadvantaged secondary English classes.

A gentle Christmas rhyme tells the story of the angel who is sent to Nazareth. There the angel sees four animals - a horse, a camel, an ox and a donkey, and four people - a soldier, a wise man, a Samaritan and Mary - who are all making their way to Bethlehem. Guided by the angel, each animal must choose who to bear to Bethlehem ...A perfect stocking filler for Christmas. Department of State"As a journalist who writes about the Defense Department's most complicated space programs, I need to have a very clear and current handle on the technology and the operational aspects of the equipment and platforms. I am always on the prowl for materials that provide me that kind of background, concisely and accurately. The best single source for such an understanding was Telecommunications Essentials. That was, until author Lillian Goleniewski put together Telecommunications Essentials, Second Edition. Since the publication of the first Telecommunications Essentials, technology has grown enormously and an understanding of Issues in English Language Education download ebook those changes is an absolute must for a reporter who writes stories about the U.S. Air Force's latest satellite success or folly. In her second edition, Lillian Goleniewski does just that. And, in the same manner of the first, she explains the technology without talking down to or over the head of less-than-savvy readers. Yet, even those knowledgeable in these technology areas will find plenty of gold to mine in the text.
